Information, please!

Some people like their information served on a silver platter; others, in a gift-wrapped box. Me? I don’t care if it comes wrapped in a brown paper bag, as long as I can find it when needed.

We are trying to provide information in a variety of packages. Surely one of these packages will meet your needs. If our website or this blog have not yet provided an answer to your questions about the up-coming conference in Seattle, have you subscribed to the IAJGS conference discussion group?

IAJGS Conference Discussion Group

If you are a subscriber to one of JewishGen’s discussion groups (and I hope you are!), then you should already be familiar with the power and format of this type of discussion forum. Subscribe either in digest mode (and received one email each day with all that day’s posts) or non-digest (and receive each message individually, as posted).

The discussion list is often used by the conference planning team and other conference participants and sponsors to post updates for general consumption or direct readers’ attention to up-coming events that may be of interest.

You may post questions about the conference and be assured that someone will respond. Often, people use the forum to look for hotel roommates; ask about local transportation advice, or learn more about conference events. Some people query to find like-minded researchers whose ancestors hale from the same Old World communities. You will often find that if you have a particular question, others will, as well. So, just ask. We may all benefit from the answer.

Note that there is an easily accessible discussion mailing list archive. Before you post a query, check the archive to see whether information about the subject has already been provided.

Conference Blog

And, of course, I suggest, if you haven’t done so already, subscribing to this blog. If you do so via RSS fed or FeedBurner (links provided on the blog page), posts will be delivered to your email inbox each day. Instructions to subscribe were discussed here.

If you are just starting to follow the blog, make sure to scroll down the blog page and page back through the many previous posts. I have no idea how many articles I have posted, but I have been blogging at least once each day since about mid-April regarding various aspects of the conference.

When an article is published on the blog, it simultaneously is posted on Twitter and the conference FaceBook page.

Don’t forget the website! The homepage, alone, is a goldmine of information about the conference. Scroll down the page for important information and links. And, of course, explore.

The conference schedule features information about each speaker and presentation and every scheduled event.

Check out the list of exhibitors who will be present at the conference. Sign up for Live! and/or audio recordings.

Have we missed anything?

If we have, you may always head to the conference discussion group and ask your question. We aim to make your conference wonderfully memorable, productive, and, above all, fun! It’s our gift to you.
