Hope you can hear the dinner bell. Out here in the West (afterall this conference does have some Western themes) we like to call all hands to their meal when it’s ready. No point in taking people away too soon from other important business.

Your spot at a catered luncheon or a pre-ordered box lunch will mean no searching around for a restaurant or bucking the lunch crowd in Seattle. Go to the appointed location in the hotel and dine. And be assured, you will be able to show up on-time for the next session after lunch.

If you have been thinking about signing up for any of the luncheons, the Thursday evening banquet, or the box lunches, the deadline to do so is Sunday, July 10.

There have already been a couple of blog posts about the meals: here and here.

And you may see summaries of the SIG luncheon offerings here.

You may have noticed that summaries of JRI-Poland and JewishGen presentations are not on that page. Never fear! Here are updates on those.

Jewish Records Indexing-Poland Luncheon

“Jewish Family in Poland in 19th Century – Debunking Myths,” presented by Tomasz Jankowski

What made a Jewish family Jewish? Was it multigenerational and patriarchal? Could studying Torah help in arranging a good marriage? How “typical” was your own family?

This talk will help you to place your own family’s history in a broader context of social and economic changes in Poland over the last two hundred years. Special attention will be paid to distinguishing between the common and pronounced characteristics of the Jewish family in the past.

JewishGen Luncheon

Please join us as we will hear from Henry Friedman, who, as a teenager, survived the war by hiding in the village of Suchowola, Poland. In 1988, Mr. Friedman went back to Suchowola, and discovered the non-Jewish woman who saved him and his family.

At this luncheon, he will share his message of hope, why the work of JewishGen is so important, and inspire those of us who devote so much time, resources, and effort, into preserving our history for future generations.
