IAJGS 2016 Speaker Profile: Joanne D. Gilbert

Published author, popular public speaker, and personal historian, Joanne D. Gilbert, M. Ed, works to save Jewish History–one story at a time. Her book, Women of Valor: Polish Resisters to the Third Reich, Gihon River Press 2014, is based on her 1st-hand interviews with Polish Jewish women, now in their 90s, who actively defied the Nazis.

Her work unequivocally dispels stereotypes that the “Jews went silently like sheep to the slaughter.” While these women all ended up in the West, Joanne brought their stories home to Poland when she was a speaker at the 2015 Krakow Jewish Cultural Festival.
